Reach Out and Read Teams Up with Epic to Support Child Literacy
November 6, 2026
New configuration available in Epic's Foundation System makes it easier to document conversations about shared reading, share literacy guidance with families, and report on outcomes.
Epic’s Dr. Jackie Gerhart and Ashley Gibson joined the Reach Out and Read podcast to discuss recent updates in Epic’s software that make it easier to document and report on the Reach Out and Read early literacy program. Clinicians can now quickly record shared reading conversations with families during well-child visits, parents and caregivers can see age-appropriate literacy guidance developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) in MyChart, and clinic coordinators can report on program outcomes with less effort. Ashley and Jackie shared what inspired the changes and why Epic chose to build support for Reach Out and Read directly into its software, helping clinics across the country that participate in the program put these changes into practice.
